Our Interim Priest-in-Charge:

Father Brian Petersen

Father Brian Petersen grew up in San Diego County (Poway, to be exact) and served in the Marine Corps before he felt the call to ministry. He graduated from Azusa Pacific University and went on to seminary at Golden Gate Baptist Seminary. He then worked for many years in the education and software industries while also volunteering as a church planter and missionary with homeless youth in Portland, Oregon and New York City. Brian has been ordained in the Episcopal Church for a little over 4 years, and he was ordained to the priesthood at St. Andrew's! He has also served in our diocese as the Priest-in-Charge of St. Brigid's Oceanside, the Curate and Priest Associate at St. Bartholomew's Poway, and Priest-in-Charge at Holy Cross Carlsbad, where he and Rev. Martie had a wonderful time working together. Brian and his wife Kelly live in Oceanside and have 3 children: Luke (23) who is currently going to school in Oregon, and Ollie (16) and Max (6) still at home. He enjoys surfing, hiking and camping with his family, and rooting for the Padres.

Our CAT assessment results affirmed the strength and health of our congregation. These positive findings will be integrated directly into the parish profile, a key document for our upcoming search process (which won’t officially begin until after February 1st). For now, let’s take time to celebrate our success: we are a vibrant, healthy parish ready to embrace our next chapter!

We just completed a Congregation Assessment Tool (CAT) Survey.

Last November, Mother Brenda Announced Her Departure

What does all of this mean for St. Andrew’s?

  • Time to Pray.

As in every transition, this is a time for us to pray. Please join us in praying for Mother Brenda as she prepares to leave, the vestry as they discern initial next steps, and for our parish as a whole. May we remember that we each have gifts to share and that our gifts combined make us the healthy, vibrant congregation that we are.

  • Time to Learn.

We will be learning together about what to expect throughout this transition process, and we will learn more about who we are as a community. You may start hearing some unfamiliar terms, like “interim rector”, “parish profile”, and “search committee”. As time goes on, we will add resources to this page to help explain the terminology and where we are in this process as a parish community.

  • Time to Connect.

While there will be many opportunities to express our appreciation for Mother Brenda, this is also an important time for the parish to lean into connections we have with one another. Be sure to greet new faces in the pews and at coffee hour: this will be an important time for us to remain open and welcoming, being aware of the ways change can lead to growth.
