St. Andrew’s is all about community, both our parish family and our broader community. Who and how do you like to serve?

We appreciate all gifts of time, talent, and treasure. If you would like to make a financial contribution to any of our programs, please click the donate button.

Serving Our Neighbors

  • Neighborhood and Education Center

Each Saturday we provide services to our guests including mail service, a tech room, and document storage. We need people to assist with technology, hand out mail, receive and retrieve documents, and help our guests.

  • Food Pantry

Every Thursday from 2-4 p.m., we set up a supermarket-style food pantry to serve the community. We need volunteers to pick up food, unload deliveries, and sort food earlier in the week, as well as set up and serve on Thursdays. We are always looking for folks with strong backs to help with the heavy lifting.

  • Saturday Breakfast

On Saturdays, we serve a hot meal to anyone who stops by. We are currently serving about 50 people each week, but that number fluctuates widely and we strive to stay flexible. We need cooks, dishwashers, servers, and friendly smiles.

  • Showers of Blessings

Showers of Blessings serves those in need by meeting one of life’s most basic human dignities–cleanliness. We need volunteers to check people in, sort and hand out clothing, and clean showers between guests. In addition, we need volunteers willing to take towels home to wash and return them. We are also always looking for hair stylists to offer haircuts to our guests.

  • Faith in Action

Faith in Action strives to understand and address issues surrounding affordable housing and behavioral healthcare. We partner with community leaders working toward policy changes at the local and regional level, emphasizing affordable housing and social services. We also provide educational opportunities, including public forums and town halls, to engage with the community on important issues.

  • Family Day of Service

Quarterly, we offer families with elementary aged children the opportunity to serve together. It helps model a giving mindset for our children, it’s a great way to get to know other parents, and it’s fun! We offer different service opportunities including serving at our Saturday Breakfast as servers. Parents must attend and serve with their children.

  • Interfaith Shelter

The Interfaith Shelter Network provides shelter and meals on a short term basis to San Diegans experiencing homelessness. The shelter runs 2 weeks every winter. We need people to help set up and take down the shelter, volunteers who can stay overnight at the shelter, and those who can provide meals for our shelter guests (usually around 15).

  • Youth Service Trip

The Youth summer service trip is an opportunity for the youth of St. Andrew’s and Bethlehem Lutheran to be of service to those who have less than they need. Past trips have included Native American Reservations in Colorado and New Mexico, and trips to the U.S./Mexico border. Parents are not required to attend with youth, but we are always looking for parent volunteers.

Serve St. Andrew’s

Taking care of our community is a lot of work. Fortunately most of it is joyful! It takes many hands to keep us running smoothly. Would you like to participate in this work?

  • Volunteers help to make our worship run smoothly. Ushers, Acolytes, Lectors, Choir Members, Lay Eucharistic Visitors, and the Welcome Team are responsible for a variety of different tasks on Sunday morning and parishioners are encouraged to volunteer for any role that suits their interest. We also have a confidential, online prayer team. Service assistants can find the current schedule by clicking here.

  • Fellowship is a valuable and enriching part of our spiritual journey. Our weekly coffee hour and other fellowship events need many hands to keep them running smoothly.

  • On the first Sunday of each month, we serve a delicious breakfast to our parish community and ask for a good-faith offering to support our Saturday Breakfast program. We need cooks, dish washers, food shoppers, and friendly smilers to make Parish Breakfasts the very best it can be.

  • Our personal response to God's generosity is the way we share our resources of time, talent, and money. Stewardship reflects our commitment to making God's love known through the realities of human life and our use of all that God has given us. The Stewardship and Finance committees are always in need of driven individuals with a passion for this parish.

  • Special Projects are occasional opportunities for volunteers to exercise their skills in a wide variety of areas. Special Projects are generally announced in advance, and volunteers are encouraged to participate wherever they feel called to do so.
