Sunday School

Sunday School

Sundays School at St. Andrew's is a way for the whole congregation to show our youngest members the teachings of Christ. Every year, our Sunday School registers an average of 100 children between the ages of 18 months and 11 years.  In addition to an amazing team of teachers, there are always a large number of parents, grandparents and older children providing extra support and assistance.  Class activities, of course, vary by age group, but Bible stories, crafts, and songs feature prominently.  The youngest class is the toddler class for children 18 months to approximately 3 years where some basic prayers, songs and simple versions of Bible stories are introduced.  By the time children reach the 5th grade, they participate in more involved Bible study.  All classes from Preschool through 5th grade use Seasons of the Spirit.  This lectionary-based curriculum incorporates both The Book of Common Prayer and The Revised Common Lectionary (read:  our children’s lessons are based on the same lessons the adults are hearing in church!), uniting our parish family, young and old alike, around a common immersion in the readings.

During the summer months, we continue to follow our Sunday School curriculum in a fun, multi-age atmosphere.  After a brief opening service, the older children do crafts and service projects while the preschoolers and toddlers go out for a little playtime.  All the children rejoin their parents after the Peace.

We feel blessed that we have so many children in attendance and we can always make room for more.

Children’s Chapel

After Sunday School, the most prominent component of Children’s Ministry is Children’s Chapel.  Once a month, rather than meeting in separate Sunday School classrooms, the children gather together for worship.  These services follow the general format of the Episcopal liturgy, and twice a year the children celebrate Holy Eucharist during this time.
