For over twelve years, we have provided a hot lunch to anyone who stops by the parish hall on a Friday afternoon. Each week, five to nine volunteers meet at St. Andrew’s to prepare and serve between 80 and 100 guests. The doors open at 1:00 p.m. We offer an extensive salad bar including hot rolls and fruit. As the folks settle in, our servers deliver a choice of two homemade soups. A few minutes later the servers return with the main course complete with meat, starch and vegetable. The food is excellent. More important, the service is friendly, offering our guests dignity they may not have experienced since the last Friday lunch. We recently got this note from one of our regular clients, with a package of cups:
November 29, 2013 Dear Everybody at Saint Andrew's Church Luncheon on Fridays, Thank you so much for your love and service- and wonderful, delicious, nutritious food! You all provide each and every one of us with the atmosphere of hope, which to me is the greatest gift of all. Plus, I absolutely love the HOME-MADE food, AND being served with such.....like we are dignified people, and good and worthy, and respectable people. That is how you all make me feel Then I get to sit with nice folks at a nice, clean table, and slowly eat my meal, with always some to take home. Because there is so much. Here are a few cups from the 99¢ Store. Love, S.
